She bottled Wednesday’s TV debate, snubbed an invitation from Woman’s Hour and is now refusing to give any interviews to BBC local radio -Theresa May is the ultimate shy Tory.
With her confidence shaken by weak and wobbly media performances, the Tory PM seems to have been ordered into hiding by Lynton Crosby.
First, Telegraph journalist Christopher Hope reported that she had knocked back an interview request from Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour.

Then Guardian columnist Owen Jones revealed a message he received from a BBC staff member saying that May was refusing to do a single interview for local radio stations.
I've been sent this, I don't know it's true. Can @CCHQPress please confirm? Because if so there are now searching questions to be asked. pic.twitter.com/T0D90jYEcG

After her approval rating hit a record low yesterday, the Tories know the more the public see of May the less they like and trust her.
So she’s now running scared from an election that she called because she arrogantly took the public’s support for granted.
If she’s not up to a radio interview, then she’s not up to the job of PM…

R clegg says:
She’s a sociopath.

I think that the BBC should refuse to play along with this and refuse to accept stand ins and substitutes. Unless we hear officially that Theresa May is ill.
A short announcement that ‘Theresa May was asked to come on this programme, but refused’, should be sufficient, and then move onto the next time.
Margell says:
item that should have been, not time.

Brian Barcroft says:
Funny the similarity between Trump and May. Both see themselves as strong, not to mention stable, but both seem as if they are strangely uncertain of themselves, want to be loved and can’t take any form of criticism. Bizarre.
Frank Thorndyke III says:
If she’s running away from local radio interviews, how on earth can she be trusted to get a “good deal” from experienced negotiators? Sorry, but it appears to me her negotiation skills are “I’ll thcream and thcream until I’m thick. I can!” I can’t wait to see the next round of soundbites, straight outta one of Trump’s books.
Corbyn and Keir Starmer appear to at least understand the principles of negotiation.

She may be feeling more than a little nervous about the ongoing investigation into her husband’s business dealings and the idea that he is profitting out of Brexit. Of course it might be too early to confirm but…
Alan Faith says:
I think it’s becoming clear that Theresa May has no self belief, and the Tories themselves are already thinking about a replacement leader. I now believe the Tories will lose their parliamentary majority on June 8th, the only question now is by what margin.
No party will accept Theresa May’s continued premiership, if indeed her own party would, having thrown awaymthe prospect of three years continuing in office for a gamble to take advantage of a temporary lead in the polls. If the Conservatives remain the largest party, the Lib Dems would offer a coalition again under a different leader, being eager for power as ever, and the Democratic Unionists would lend their support. We have seen this before and will get the same outcome- continued austerity.
The only way to ensure an end to austerity is to elect a Labour government under Jeremy Corbyn.
Chris Miller says:
It’s a disgrace, she called this election & has done absolutely nothing to show that she could even lead a tea party ! It is scandalous what this government has done to people in the name of austerity & plan to continue to do. No manifesto to speak of, & taken the attitude “we will tell you after the election. She is all soundbites & no substance. Negotiate Brexit, she couldn’t negotiate herself out of a paper bag. If the Tories get voted in again after this sad & sorry performance, the electorate really are as stupid as the Tories have taken them for.
Frank Thorndyke III says:
Chris Miller – that’s the problem, they do think the electorate are stupid and if they had a mandate to govern, would unleash the fires of hell asset stripping the country.
dennis bartholomew says:
she does not want to go on radio interviews she does not want tog on tele debates with otehr leaders how can she go to Brussels and negotiate with the eu how can the country trust her she shoul be going there with the other 3 leaders of devolved uk governments after all she keeps saying we are all in it together she just wants all the glory typical tory

Unbelievable and, as far as I know, unprecedented in British politics. I can only assume that Lynton Crosby has decided that her appearing in interviews would be even more damaging than refusing to appear. It’s gone way beyond ‘weak and wobbly’: she is not fit to be Prime Minister.

The arrogance of this woman. Is the election campaign simple a mile inconvenience to her entitled role as reigning monarch? Does she not think the people who will elect her or not have the right to hear her views on a civilised debate? How she despises people and yet people will still vote for this bunch of directionless muppets, ready to lead us all like lemmings off the cliff.

Why on earth did Theresa May call a snap election? How does she expect any intelligent person to vote for her if she is not willing to publicly defend policies she puts forward, interact with the media, debate with her opponents? How can we trust her to negotiate Brexit with 27 EU leaders? And what do the mainstream media make of this? In other words, how would the media react if this attitude came from Jeremy Corbyn? It is now clear that Theresa May is not up to the job.
S. Enright says:
I’ve been considering, for a while, that Theresa could really be looking sing the plot. She looks less well groomed and is wearing more and more makeup, she is showing signs of strain and is definitely not relishing the campaigning. I think she could be ill and on the edge of a breakdown, which I wouldn’t wish on anyone. The trouble is, no one is telling us what’s really going on.
S. Enright says:

Maggie May says:
Theresa May is sadly out of her depth and uncomfortable without the trappings of power around her. Isolated from public for so long, she has lost her humanity and has become a sad reflection of what her Vicar father would of expected. Cold and compassionless, motherless kids have a hard time. Do childless women have it harder? Go sleep now Theresa take a well earned rest, melt into Camerons world where you can have peace and quiet. The PM job is not for you.

You would not think she is prime minister surely part of the election campaigning is to meet people and answer questions not hid away, if she cannot do interviews how the hell is she going to do negotiations on our behalf, and when she does decide to show up regardless of what question is asked she always turns it about brexit no doubt as she has no answers, and finally what callous cow would send another politician to a live debate knowing that she lost her dad two days previously if that’s what she can do to her own she cannot be trusted and if she gets in the poor will get poorer and all her rich friends richer I know it a long shot but I hope Jeremy gets in

I have said it before and I will say it again the TORIES are trying to loose this election so they do not have to deal with Brexit and ultimately blame anyone who does for the mess that is coming that they created by having the referendum on Europe in the first place, all Englishmen should vote Tory to keep her in power.
Uriah says:
How can we trust someone who hides from the British voters she is supposed to represent to negotiate with 27 shrewd negotiators from EU countries? The answer is simple.. she cannot be trusted. She is incompetent.
Kim Brown says:
Having watched her micro expressions she seems to be exhibiting fear – there is a thought the real reason for calling an election was nothing to do with Brexit but implementing the Naylor report which is worth trillions to private investors – most likely Tory cronies that don’t pay a penny in tax in this country – the real, power behind the throne as we all know and why the media is so biased towards Corbyn, why haven’t the media reported on the Naylor report which May supports? Baducally sellingbiff all NHS assets and privatising the NHS. No wonder she is fearful – people have been disappeared for far less

Fleure Spicer says:
I’m not a bit surprised. I watched the BBC ‘contest’ in Cambridge, where 86.4%!voted to Remain and it was clear as day that the audience was fully behind Corbyn. The whole thing was a circus of tittle tattle, childish backbiting. Not one question about Brexit. Both Corbyn and May did a Question Time with audience before being interviewed by Paxman. Corbyn tried to joke with Paxman, May became very facially steely, when Pa mean asked her FIVE times whether she would withdraw from the EU with no deal, she said quite clearly, ” l’ve told you Jeremy, No deal is better than a bad deal, so Yes !” Paxman is utterly rude, not clever, just rude. They will then be on Question Time. That is enough surely.
The whole thing is soo American, it rude, crude and unnecessary.

I have read most of the above comments, mostly against Theresa May in various ways.
I accept a lot of these comments, but would issue a word of warning to those who seem to be complacent about the Tories losing the election.
Look back a few years when Neil Kinnock was ‘a sure thing’ – but lost!
Let those of us who support Labour (and have done since the end of WW2). Make sure that we encourage everyone we know to actually get out there and VOTE next Thursday. We have to vote whatever the weather, or whatever else we have to do that day. All our votes will hopefully keep May and the Tories out.
Having watched JC this past couple of weeks has made me revise my opinion and realise he WILL be a great prime minister. Unlike the rest, he sticks by his beliefs and his policies, which are what Mr and Mrs Public really need at this time.
Michael McInerney says:
I think it all stems from her nervousness in front a Camera or radio Mike. She would be more suited using semaphore, with the interviewer dressed in a Scarlet Uniform & a Bearskin Hat. It is worth trying, because watching the Wicked Witch of the West lying through her teeth has used up all the comedy, used at the beginning of the Election. It just seems like watching repeats on BBC. Strong & Stable the poor deluded creature will never be, & her husband who looks like Woody Allen is taking all the glory she seems to want so badly.
