A video has emerged which shows Theresa May was explicitly warned about the consequences of the Tories’ cuts to police budgets on counter terrorism work by a former Greater Manchester Police officer.

Inspector Damian O’Reilly, named Britain’s best bobby in 2010 and awarded an MBE in 2013, asked the then Home Secretary to reconsider the level of cuts being planned for the police service.

Speaking at the 2015 Police Federation conference, he told May how he quit the force in 2012 after 15 years of service “because the changes that have been imposed have caused community policing to collapse.”

And he warned her:

“Neighbourhood policing is critical to deal with terrorism. We run the risk here of letting communities down, putting officers at risk and ultimately risking national security.

“I’d ask you to seriously reconsider the budget and level of cuts over the next 5 years.”

May had presented O’Reilly with his Community Police Officer of the Year award in 2010.

But she responded by telling him and other officers who raised concerns that they were “scaremongering” and “crying wolf.”

The Police Federation said yesterday that there would be no need for soldiers on the streets if the police were properly resourced and again called on the Government to put more bobbies on the beat.

Will Theresa May listen this time?

  1. It is scary to think this woman will get 5yrs to do what she likes to this country!! God help us….

  2. Don’t vote this women into power 8thJunejust read tthis and think about it you won’t see it on the BBC

  3. She is not concerned with the people who reside in the UK, only with herself and the rest of the trough feeders who are simply in politics for their own end. Why should she worry about Policing? she has a permanent armed Police presence outside her barricaded door. This woman is a deluded, uncaring, hypocrite and I cannot vote for her, even after almost 50 years of voting against Labour. I now know how Americans felt when offered the choice of Clinton or Trump. We are in the same position, May or Corbyn. For the first time in my life I am frightened for the future and have no idea who to vote for.

  4. Christopher Deans says:

She could provide the country with strong and stable leadership of Her Majesty’s Opposition, but she is far too greater risk to be Prime Minister of this country. she is just not fit for the purpose.

  5. Vote them out. Let’s stick together back Jeremy Corbyn and Labour and boot this pack of cretins out of Downing Street. The social, health, utility and educational changes the labour party will make will be enough to secure the future of our kids. Plus the Labour party will get to the root cause of terrorism which we know is our current misguided foreign policy.

  6. Liz Gifford says:

Please…vote…do not let this woman back in. JC isn’t a charismatic politician, but he is an honest, intelligent, man. He was right about Iraq and I believe he’s right about the major issues.
