Theresa May ignored an invitation to address thousands of NHS nurses, it has emerged on the same day she is posing as a workers’ champion.

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn and Lib Dem leader Tim Farron have both spoken at the Royal College of Nursing’s congress in Liverpool today.

But it has been revealed that the Prime Minister didn’t even bother to reply to the RCN’s invitation.

The RCN revealed yesterday that 91% of its members are willing to take strike action after seeing their pay cut by 14% since the Tories took power.

Perhaps she wasn’t brave enough to explain why she is refusing to give nurses pay rise – despite hearing they have begun turning to food banks.

Jeremy Hunt was going to speak via Skype, but he hadn’t paid the internet bill…

  1. When she professes to be strong and stable never put yourself up to be shot down, people will begin to understand that she is just a empty head short of N H S answers.WELL DONE TIM AND JEREMY ACCEPTING THE INVITATION FROM OUR WONDERFUL NURSES.

  2. When she professes to be strong and stable never put yourself up to be shot down, people will begin to understand that she is just a empty head short of N H S answers.WELL DONE TIM AND JEREMY ACCEPTING THE INVITATION FROM OUR WONDERFUL NURSES.

  3. Just when is she going to visit NHS hospital on her GE17 election campaign?

Surely she needs all the votes she can get from the public sector?

Well don’t bother public sector workers have already made up minds who to vote for, not suprisely it’s not Tory

  4. Trevor Lock says:

She has not ot a clue what the working class think of her, well actually maybe she has, that’s shy she won’t be talking to any real working class voters!

  5. Hugh Jaynus says:

but yet the foolish, brainwashed working class are openly talking about switching from Labour to Tory. If the Conservatives are returned with a clear majority then those that voted for them deserve everything they get.
No point voting Tory because of Brexit and then complaining about waiting lists in hospitals or benefits getting cut – get the tories out – then lets take this country forward as a whole.

    Tactical voting folks Tactical Voting

  6. MARIANNE SANTAMERA says:

She’s not bothering to campaign because the mainstream media is doing it for her. I really hope the polls have got this wrong again! Another 5 years of smug Tory austerity and her plans for a hard Brexit are going to bring the UK to it’s knees. She’s afraid of the nurses and the rest of the Public Sector. Strong and stable? What a joke

  7. The first thing in warfare is to demoralize your opponent …. put out ‘fake’ poll results.

  8. Eileen Sutherland says:

Another Tory government is going to bring Britain to its knees and the NHS We have to as a nation got to stop them getting back in for another 5 years I watched the Andrew marr show yesterday and he hit the nail on the head They are not interested in the working class or the poor The mighty May said the hard working would be rewarded Bull…t if that was the case she would put our NHS first and pay them what they deserve Nobody in Britain in my eyes work harder than the PLEASE PLEASE dont let the torys back in

  10. Theresa May is a second Margaret Thatcher, only worse. On her appointment as P.M.
she made all sorts of promises, but never kept any of them.
She and her government have treated the workers of this country abominably, and have stood and watched the N.H.S. go from a National Treasure which the rest of the world admired, to a service due lack of funding, going to bits, whilst at the same time selling of major services to private enterprise by the back door!
I started nursing when the N.H.S. came into being. Over the next 40years I saw this service grow into something very special, where all who were employed in it worked very hard to achieve this, and the way this Goverment and mostly their P.M.’s have treated these wonderful people is an absolute disgrace.
Like others I find it hard to believe lifetime Labour voters are saying they are going to vote Tory
this time. That of course is up to you, but if they are returned, and things go from bad to worse don’t moan!

  11. The nursing profession do a wonderful job,and deserve decent pay rise for what they do. Good on Jeremy Corbyn and Tim Farron for acknowledging them
    Shame on you Teresa May.

  12. Sandra Newell says:

The N.H.S. is precious, we should not let it crumble under the Conservatives. We have all to be thankful rich and poor for what its has achieved. The nurses work very hard and should be treasured. We cannot manage without them.

  13. KEVIN CHARNOCK says:

THIS VERY WEEK 20 YEARS AGO I WOULD HAVE DIED BUT FOR THE LOVING DEDICATION OF THE DOCTORS AND NURSING STAFF AT THE ROYAL BOLTON HOSPITAL FARNWORTH BOLTON LANCS MINERVA ROAD/; WHOM I THANK SINCERELY FROM MY HEART FOR GIVING ME A SECOND CHANCE AT LIFE MAY GOD BLESS YOU ALL VERY MUCH

  14. To ignore a body as important as the RCN shows either huge arrogance that she can ignore this very important group of electors, or just plain rudeness, or fear of the reception she would get. It’s been vey obvious inthis campaign that all her events have been staged before party faithful and the real public have been kept away.

  15. She would not have got a good reception members may have made their feelings known. They are considering industrial action .What are her plans to get enough nurses to staff the nhs . Vacancies cannot be filled and nursing is now less attractive profession for younger people with paycap and tuition fees. What are her plans for the nhs l heard her views on fox hunting but unclear about nhs.

  16. … i agree anyone who has to work for a living should not be voting tory /concervative if you usr food banks ever-vote labour. if you rent your home -vote labour. If you have to work- vote labour. If the job you do is not what you chose, but what you could get- vote labour. If you have no job- vote labour. If you are disabled or unable to work for any reason -vote labour..
Zero hour contract- vote labour. Need more than 1 job- vote labour. Below minimum wage-vote labour.

  17. As far as I’m concerned The Torys are a bunch of Carpetbaggers in that their Policies have increased endemic Poverty throughout the land . Poverty of Pay , Poverty of Healthcare through constant underfunding , Poverty of Housing , Life Chances and above all a complete disdain and mistrust of Working Folk leading to some of the greatest Fabrications of facts regarding their disastrous Monetarist Thatcherite Policies. I hope May is wrong with her arrogant mantra of Stable , Solid , Good Government and little substance or honesty other than this repetitive bilge . The Nasty Party should be held to account !

  18. Well I recall the big changes starting in the days when labour was in power, Barbara Castle days, matrons and senior nurses given numbers and expensive managers being brought in, my hospital manager was an x manager of Sainsbury’s and thereafter they feathered their nests by making nurses do more work for less money, the more money they “saved” the bigger their bonus was. It still goes on, how many administrators are in the NHS, that is where the big money goes.
It’s about time hospital training schools were brought back and nurses could live in.
No high cost accommodation outside needed and no transport costs either.
Stop slagging Theresa May, she has only been PM for a few months. I don’t blame her not joining in debates all they are are slagging matches.
And if you have never been part of the medical profession, keep your mouth closed. Believe me they are well able to speak for themselves.

  19. John Cooper says:

Conservatives have introduced something that I never knew existed?
    FEAR OF GROWING OLD!
With the treatment of the health Service?
The reluctance to support SOCIAL CARE!
Putting a Tax on older people for their support in later life.
    They should be ashamed?
Their visions are blinded by Profit!!

  20. Retired NHS worker says:

A previous election manifesto promised no top-down reorganisation of the NHS. No surprise when that was immediately broken.
Amazed that she won’t praise the enormous improvements in the NHS given the claims by the government of huge increases in doctors and nurses.

  21. I m with labour of course but it is too full of bureaucrats and their decisions who are getting paid for this. A hospital for mentally ill people near leeds made a whole new ward but couldn t use it as they couldn t afford to pay any staff to man it. I mean who on earth got paid for that decision. It is not just a question of more money but also the money needs to be spent wisely.Thehospital has now closed anyway so what was the point.
