It attracted an unprecedented 1.8 million signatures, but apparently public opinion is only important when it aligns with government policy.

The government announced this morning it has rejected the petition to honour Donald Trump with a state visit to Britain.

Not only that, Theresa May’s team is going out to its way to help him get a nicer reception here. One idea: move the location of the visit so he avoids areas like London.

A second idea mooted by Trump’s team: bringing American cheerleaders!

In a response posted to the petition today, the government stated:

HM Government believes the President of the United States should be extended the full courtesy of a State Visit. We look forward to welcoming President Trump once dates and arrangements are finalised.

We look forward to the dates too.

It’s going to be one hell of a protest party

  1. It just shows how desperate the Conservatives are to do a trade deal with the USA. They will sell their souls to avoid being proved wrong for campaigning for Brexit.

LIsten to what the conman President said. ‘America First’ He always comes out on top (except when dealing with Putin). They will go into negotiations with the Yanks like lambs to the slaughter.

  2. Holding their hands out for baksheesh.
Think this may be the time too turn our backs on any public motorcade or display by these idiots. Disdain and contempt should be displayed (its not speech after al).l

  3. I hear there’s talk of him addressing a war veterans’s rally so he can pretend to be sympathetic to them. A little ironic since he was of prime age to serve in Vietnam but somehow he didn’t go…

  4. Patrick Graham says:

“Theresa May’s team is going out to its way to help him get a nicer reception here. One idea: move the location of the visit so he avoids areas like London.”

or just the UK as a whole?

    How about Tristan da Cunha?
they might be so flattered as to be enthusiastic about Agent orange coming to see them.
