The shameless of British tabloid newspapers knows no bounds.

Today the Daily Mail and the Sun are blaming Labour for the Guantanamo detainee who joined ISIS even as they campaigned for his release.

The Mail says:

A British ISIS suicide bomber has been revealed as a former Guantanamo prisoner who was handed the equivalent of $1.25million in British taxpayers’ money as compensation before fleeing to Syria. UK national Jamal Udeen al-Harith was photographed moments before blowing himself up in an attack on a military facility near Mosul in Iraq. […]

After intense campaigning by Tony Blair’s government led by then-Home Secretary David Blunkett, the British citizen was freed two years later.

The Sun takes the same line:

STILL THINK HE WASN’T A DANGER, MR BLAIR? Fury at Tony Blair Labour government’s £1m compensation for ‘innocent’ Brit Guantanamo Bay detainee Ronald Fiddler…who has blown himself up for ISIS

But the Daily Mail directly campaigned for the release of these detainees.

It even praised their release!

Also, as Blair points out today:

He was not paid compensation by my Government. The compensation was agreed in 2010 by the Conservative Government.

The Labour party merely campaigned for Guantanamo Brits to be freed, which was their right since they weren’t charged. The Mail even supported the cause.

When are we going to get some honesty from Britain’s tabloid newspapers?

  1. “Daily tFail” at it again! They petitioned for this man’s release, and it was Cameron’s government who compensated him. Get it right!
