Zac Goldsmith

Zac Goldsmith got trounced last night in the Richmond by-election by the Lib Dems in a contest that was largely seen as a referendum on Tory Brexit plans.

Goldsmith had said he wanted Britain to leave the EU, while the Lib Dems campaigned against a ‘hard Brexit’.

Lib Dem Sarah Olney overturned a 23,000 majority and won just under 50% of the entire vote, with most Labour voters switching to her too.

In a year when right-wingers are winning everywhere, Zac Goldsmith managed to get trounced twice in 7 months. Quite an achievement.

His brother wasn’t impressed

The Lib Dem winner said last night:

And our message is clear: we do not want a hard Brexit. We do not want to pull out of the single market. We will not let intolerance, division and fear win.

At least Zac Goldsmith has time to himself now to find those principles again

  1. Maybe if your brother had listened to his constituents instead of sticking to the Tory ‘will of the people’ line he might still be an MP, Goodbye Zac

  2. It’s always his family that come out with this strange comments. Think his sister did the same after he lost the Mayorship.

  3. james naughtie was right says:

Must be because they had such a lovable dad. Or because if you’re a mega-rich spoiled brat you just assume that, just as in the lottery of birth, you’re always going to win.
