Burkini ban tweet

Londoners are encouraging everyone to join them for a ‘Wear What You Want Beach Party‘ tomorrow in response to news reports of women being fined by French police for wearing too much on beaches.

The light-hearted protest will take place tomorrow, 25th August, outside the French Embassy in London between 2pm and 4pm.

Organisers on Facebook say:

We are disgusted to hear of armed French policemen telling women what they are allowed to wear and making them undress in public.

So come along to the French Embassy and wear what you want – BURKINIS, BIKINIS, ANYTHING GOES. Bring beach gear: beach umbrellas, towels, bat and ball, boules….

Outrage was sparked after news reports that French police were patrolling beaches and either fining or removing women who were covering their heads.

The Daily Mail reported that one woman in Cannes wearing a headscarf was threatened with pepper spray and fined.

Another woman in Nice was asked to strip down. So much for ‘Liberte, Egalite, Laicite’ in France.

We encourage everyone to join the beach party

More details here

  1. What a load of rubbish,if they live in the uk they should dress uk ,we should send a load of bikini clad woman over to a muslim country and see what happens,or even better have a demonstration for free speech lol. Too one sided.

  2. Will they be holding the same party outside the Embassies of oppressive Arabic states who also dictate what women should wear.
Not holding my breath for that and this is the hypocrisy around the whole subject from protesters like these.
