Tasmina Ahmed-Sheikh Alex Salmond

Daily Record Westminster editor Torcuil Crichton reports on the debut of Alex Salmond and his close ally Tasmina Ahmed Sheikh MP as delegates to the Council of Europe:

On the eve of the meeting in Strasbourg Salmond boasted on Twitter that he was “happy to announce the SNP’s membership of the Socialist Group”.

But Salmond’s socialism came as news to Labour bruiser John Prescott, who accused the former Royal Bank of Scotland oil economist of posing as a leftie:

Prescott told me: “ I said to Alex: ‘You’re not coming in to this meeting’. To which he replied : ‘You’re not big enough to stop me.’ He meant politically, not physically, but he didn’t get in.”

According to Salmond’s account the former Deputy Prime Minister “blew a gasket” and created such a scene that it was best to diplomatically withdraw while things calmed down.

After this Strasbourg Stramash, and SNP protests, the duo [Salmond and Ahmed Sheikh] were allowed in to the evening meeting as “guests”, but with no speaking or voting rights within the group.

What a pity Ahmed Sheikh was denied the opportunity to share tales of her struggle for Scottish socialism with her comrades.

Errrr …

  1. David S. Briggs says:

When you have to rely on a tit like Torcuil Crichton of The Daily Record, your story falls to pieces.

The man that was the midwife of ‘The Vow’ and is a figure of fun along with his Newspaper?

    You really must try harder.

  2. When you have to rely on a tit like Torcuil Crichton of The Daily Record, your story falls to pieces.

Or tits like Salmond and Prescott … who both confirmed the exchange on the record? ‘I don’t like this journalist therefore it can’t be true.’ Nice logic there.
