Iain Duncan Smith at Caritas homeless charity

The chutzpah of Iain Duncan Smith appears to have soared to new heights after posing for a publicity photo at a homeless charity whose services are under threat … thanks to the government.

Caritas Anchor House are locked in a legal battle with HMRC after a shock ruling landed them with a £1 million tax bill — which could yet rise to £1.5 million.

A review by bureaucrats altered the tax designation of accommodation from ‘homeless hostel’ to ‘residential and life skills centre’ — even thought the actual use of the facility has not changed.

With the charity claiming that “vulnerable people will be put at needless risk” the official response from HMRC is chilling:

“Time-to-pay arrangements may be available for those with payment problems”.

Scrapbook advises the charity should change their name to ‘Google’ or ‘Vodafone’, which would doubtless prompt a sudden change of heart.
