Schools Week — a specialist newspaper for the primary and secondary schools sector — is reporting that the Education Secretary Nicky Morgan will announce today a £5m windfall of taxpayers’ money to five academy chains in the north of England.
Which is just as well. Because at least three of them are really going to need our money:
- Outwood Grange Academies Trust’s Chief Executive Sir Michael Wilkinswa was once paid a bonus of £500,000 – on top of his £182,000 principal salary.
- Bright Tribe paid two of its governing trustees £300,000 — despite them only having two schools to oversee at the time.
- REAch2’s CEO Cathie Paine trousers £135,000 a year.
So the £5m might just about cover executive salaries for a couple of years.
