Lord Freud poor have least to lose

Yet another inquiry is being conducted into the Tories’ harsh benefits regime — with a committee of MPs set to probe whether delays and cock-ups by DWP are driving desperately needy people to food banks.

Announcing the investigation “into the timeliness and accuracy of benefit delivery by the DWP” the Work and Pensions Committee stated that:

“Potential problems that can arise when benefits are delayed or underpaid include people resorting to food banks for emergency food rations.”

The British Red Cross, Citizens’ Advice and the Destitute Asylum Network are set to give evidence next Wednesday. DWP minister Lord Freud (above) will then be called to account for his department’s performance.

The charming millionaire has previously blamed charities for food bank growth and defended benefits reforms on the basis that ‘the poor have the least to lose’:

“We’ve got the circumstances now where… people who are poorer should be prepared to take the biggest risks – they’ve got least to lose.

Perhaps a read of Scrapbook might save the committee some time.

  1. ronald robertson says:

It not just poeple does work.It also use by people does work. So every body Need the food banks. To look after their children So Claim more tax from the rich poeple and leaf the poor people alone.

  2. Apart from the issue of helping people I reckon the food banks help supermarkets and councils. After all all this nearly time expired food has to go somewhere. Landfill?

I find Lord Freud quite creepy. I watched hours of his performance when he was driving through the ESA changes. And they still won’t comment on the increased suicide rate induced by cutting of people’s benfits.

  3. Really?? Lord Freud?? Where the hell is IDS? He and everyone who supports his ideas must be held to account. I have watched these sessions before and i have to say that despite hard evidence very little happens after an enquiry of this type. Is anyone going to stand up to these bullies and let them get away with murder – I mean that literally. The only light in a very dark tunnel is Jeremy Corbyn…..

  4. Jeffery Davies says:

Yet another inquiry into rtu ids aktion t4 plan for those on benefits while this enquiry carries on how many more are going to die lose their benefits through sanctions yes it seems that mps can talk about it but not do a dam thing to stop it jeff3

  5. When the poor have nothing they will have nothing to loose. Good logic.
Who was it who thought the widows mite was worth a fortune?

  6. The poor have the MOST to lose because what they will lose is EVERYTHING. Collect the tax that is due from corporations, close the “loop holes” where they are being abused and introduce, and enforce the Living Wage. Good employers are bringing it in voluntarily making liars of those big organisations who say it is unstainable.
