Those pig rumours still have currency in Westminster, raising more than a titter during PMQs.

Telling MPs his question related to claims in Lord Ashcroft and Isabel Oakeshott’s book, cheeky Kevin Brennan MP then asked the PM whether he had ‘told porkies’ over knowledge of Ashcroft’s non-dom tax status.

Questioned in the wake of Ashcroft’s claim that he had known of the peer’s tax avoidance for months before it became public in 2010, Cameron said:

“I answered all that at the time.”

But he didn’t.

With Ashcroft finally coming clean on 1 March 2010 Cameron steadfastly refused to be drawn on what he knew and when.

Statements that he had only been in the loop for a few weeks were issued by others — such as Liam Fox and Tory HQ.
