Multi-millionaire Thatcherite Tory MP Nadhim Zahawi has been offering pearls of wisdom on the massive job losses at Redcar steelworks, claiming that an intervention by the government — as in Italy — would be “bad economics”:
“Now, I ask your viewers would you prefer an economy like Italy or one like the UK? … the steel industry, at the moment, is in a glut because of Chinese steel. I think it’s bad economics.”
This is a man who:
- Got caught charging the taxpayer to heat stables on his country estate
- Was claiming four times the average household energy bill
- Apparently can’t get by on an MPs’ £67,000 salary, so he moonlights as director for a recruitment firm — trousering an additional £40,000 per year.
But even this isn’t enough for greedy Zahawi.
Just last month he landed yet another job with oil company Gulf Keystone Petroleum as “chief strategy officer”.
