Natalie Bennett Green conference 2015: empty seats

Having strongly briefed that “green surge” would be manifest in their “biggest ever” autumn conference, one might be forgiven for wondering why the Green Party can’t seem to fill the hall for a speech by their leader.

The image above of Natalie Bennett’s introduction — taken moments before she took the podium and some six minutes after the scheduled start — shows more than a handful of empty seats at Bournemouth International Centre.

Crowd management is a staple of political events in general and conference season in particular, and shouldn’t be beyond the wit of a team recently bolstered by a £350,000 hiring spree.

Still — at least Bennett herself was in place when called.
