Team Cameron’s message to British business is to “shut up” — that’s a quote — on support for the European Union until the PM secures a renegotiation. The FT reports (£):
“The prime minister’s team is concerned that if business leaders speak out now in favour of remaining in the EU they risk damaging the renegotiation process as well as potentially turning public opinion against continued membership.”
So now Tory high command tell us that business will alienate public opinion? Errrr … this is certainly not a concern harboured during the election campaign.
Make no mistake, this is about saving Dave’s arse from his own Eurosceptic backbenchers.
