- Ex-Home Office minister denies using Ashley Madison website
- Account was registered from Parliament during late sitting
- Mother’s maiden name ‘matches answer to security question’
- Login name is surname of female shadow minister
Personal information linked to Tory MP Damian Green is present in the leaked Ashley Madison database, Political Scrapbook can exclusively reveal.
What are apparently a personal AOL email address and mother’s maiden name of the former immigration minister are present in data associated with an account registered late at night from a parliamentary IP address.
But Green is adamant never to have used the adult dating service, telling this website in a statement:
“This email address mentioned is one I stopped using in the 1990s. I have never used an Ashley Madison account.”
The operator of the profile, using the nickname ‘Direct Male’ and giving their postcode as the same as parliament, wrote:
“I would love to meet and pamper a bright sassy woman who knows what she wants and how to get it.
“Attitude is more important than looks — if you want light-hearted fun I could be the one — or one of the many.
“I am looking for some NSA fun with a woman who has sparkling eyes, a lively sense of fun and an ache for some really good sex.
Green’s strong denial raises the prospect that he has been betrayed by someone with intimate knowledge of his family and access to the computer network at his place of work.
The offending account looks to have been registered from the IP address 188.8.131.52 at around 10:30pm on 27 March 2007. This would correspond with a late sitting for that year’s budget, which kept Green and colleagues on the premises until midnight.
Born in the Welsh town of Barry with the middle name Howard, a “Damian H. Green” is the only person of a similar name listed in the General Register Office summary indices for East Glamorgan at the time of his birth. This official record gives the mother’s maiden name as “Lyons” — exactly the same answer given to a corresponding security question on Ashley Madison.
Ashley Madison had recently opened its doors to UK members when the account with Green’s details was registered. The site was then operating under the slogan “When Monogamy Becomes Monotony”.
The discovery makes Green the most senior politician whose details have been linked to Ashley Madison after an email used by Scots nationalist MP Michelle Thomson was discovered in data dumped by hackers. She also strongly denies using the site.
Intriguingly, the user login for the account with Green’s old email is ‘villiers’ — the surname of a then thirty-something shadow chief secretary to the treasury.
Sat late at night in parliament, Scrapbook wonders what could have been going through the mind of the registrant?
