With opponents calling for him to be sacked, Tory minister Matt Hancock has apologised after Scrapbook highlighted a message on his Twitter timeline stating the Labour Party was “full of queers”:
— Chris Bryant (@ChrisBryantMP) October 2, 2014
Previous RT was a total accident. I wholeheartedly disagree with offensive comment in the tweet & am incredibly sorry for any offence caused
— Matt Hancock (@matthancockmp) October 2, 2014
The Politiwoops website, which archives tweets deleted by MPs, shows that the Hancock used the official Twitter app to re-tweet the message on his iPhone.
As the image below shows, however, his explanation would involve “accidentally” clicking a re-tweet picture icon and then “accidentally” clicking a second button which not only has “re-tweet” written on it but is in a different location.
Accident? Or just appalling judgement?
