Help for Heroes, The Sun and Miliband

Interesting to see Help For Heroes (registered charity number 1120920) being used by The Sun (£) this morning as a prop in the newspaper’s battle with the Labour Party.

Indeed, when the EDL tried to raise money for the veterans’ organisation, a spokesman stated:

“It’s the same for any political party … As a charity, we’re non-political.”

Charities minister Brooks Newmark recently told charities to “stick to their knitting” and keep out of politics — along with his Tory colleagues Conor Burns and Charlie Elphicke making similar interventions, such as reporting wonkers IPPR to the Charity Commission.

Doubtless we’ll be hearing from them soon about the appropriateness of a charitable campaign being invoked in this way … errrr ….

  1. Charity commissioners need to investigate this one they are piggy backing on charitable good will. Torys, l ower than the drains and sewers that vermin live in

  2. Also where is the statement from Help For Heroes? If they are content for their charity name to be used in this manner, surely that then makes them a politically-motivated body not suitable for charitable status?
