Having heard reports of near-adulation for Andy Burnham at lefty meetings and rallies in the last 12-months, the (two) standing ovations for the shadow health secretary come as no surprise to Scrapbook.

Obviously enjoying himself, the Leigh MP couldn’t resist a gesture of encouragement as delegates started to shout:

“Whose NHS? Our NHS!”

This underscores his position as the activists’ darling — after a July LabourList readers poll gave him a whopping 33 point lead over his nearest shadow cabinet colleague (Yvette Cooper).

And it won’t have gone unobserved that the chanters included Unite’s Len McCluskey.

  1. How strange that the Scottish mouthpiece of the London based Labour Party were saying. only last week, that the ‘NHS under threat’ was ‘scaremongering’? Must be that multiverse thingy some geeks talk about?
