Nigel Farage: Maybe it's because I got so many women pregnant

Nigel Farage explained his party’s attitude to women by bragging about the number who he had made pregnant, Political Scrapbook can reveal. Speaking to an obscure (and now defunct) Belgian magazine, the UKIP leader claimed that the four children from his two marriages were merely the “official list” before adding:

“maybe it’s because I’ve got so many women pregnant over the years that I have a different view”

The quote will doubtless by seized upon by opponents who have slammed UKIP’s anti-women policies on issues such as maternity leave and misogynistic rhetoric from senior UKIP figures — who have called women “sluts” and questioned whether rape can occur within a relationship.

Despite the intense scrutiny on UKIP, the quotes had remained unrepeated for nine years because they were only available in web archive out of the reach of Google.

Speaking to UP Front magazine (FULL INTERVIEW) on the “lunacy” of maternity leave, Farage’s outburst was initially prompted by a question about women playing sport:

“Do we think, chaps, when we’re there in the front line, when the balloon goes up, with fixed bayonets, when the whistle’s about to blow to go over the top, do we actually want to be there with women beside us? I certainly don’t think so.”

“I find it very difficult to think that we could stand up and run over the top together, into the machine guns or whatever. Men and women are different”

Nasty little Nigel: brags about getting women pregnant … wants to cut maternity leave.

  1. David Briggs says:

Not only patronising to women, but pretty dismissive of men, harking back to whistles and trenches. Hard to imagine anyone that would resonate with apart fro the brain dead.

I’m not a religious person, but I hope to god that my fellow Scots Vote ‘Yes’ in September to distance ourselves from the contagion sweeping through England.

  2. Allan Hefferon says:

Farage now there is a good old English name for you. As for the comments about women
they really speak for for themselves. In truth I am very surprised that any women who
would have taken a second look at such a self proclaimed stud ? 1950’s schoolboy playground stuff. Which is no coincidence as it is exactly where these people want us to return. Sadly I cannot come to terms with listening to people who say they have been Labour voters all their lives but are being taken in by this prat and his followers. Let’s wait till we witness them in action and the true colours come to the surface.

  3. Ivan the Great says:

Mr. Farage’s personality might be the genes but is also defined by his lack of higher education, look around at the background of all our valued politicians (Cambridge, Oxford and so on), and judge if he can represent this country.

  4. Richard Morrison says:

Winston Churchill never went to university either. Nor did John Major and he was a better-than-average PM. Stop being such a snob. All your politically correct ideas need shaking up. Employers can’t all afford to offer endless maternity leave and perks for women. Nor can the NHS afford to go on providing them with endless free abortions (about 25% of all operations carried out on the NHS I believe).
And above all we can’t go on giving Brussels £55 million per day.
