It’s Saturday, but apparently Tory Boys need telling not to dress for work. Conservative Party staff have taken to ordering them not to wear suits if there’s a photographer about — as an email to young activists in a marginal West London seat today reveals:
“please can I advise you not to wear a suit as we will be out and about with a photographer … There will be a photographer, so, no suits, no rosettes.”
Conspicuously sharp tailoring may impress in Tory circles but risks a mixed reception with those “hardworking people” in an urban seat like Brentford and Isleworth.
Scrapbook is reminded of advice imparted by one high-profile Conservative hack while discussing the well tailored but ultimately doomed Tatler Tories:
“Never pose next to Mark Clarke wearing a shiny suit.”
