As the government opens its consultation on legalising gay marriage, ice cream giants Ben & Jerry’s have struck a blow for equal marriage, renaming their “Oh My! Apple Pie” flavour “Apple-y Ever After”.

The rechristened ice cream also features on the package a gay couple stood on a wedding cake. In a press release put out alongside the change, the company said:

“This March as the UK government debates whether to legalise same sex marriage, we’ve partnered with gay rights organisation, Stonewall, to raise awareness about the importance of marriage equality by renaming our Apple Pie flavour, Apple-y Ever After!”

While foaming-at-the-mouth bigot Cardinal Keith O’Brien compared gay marriage to slavery, he can be reassured that with Ben & Jerry’s a prominent user of fairtrade ingredients, no slavery was used in the making of the ice cream.

At least they didn’t go for “Santor-rum and Raisin”.

  1. It’s a bit of a gimmick unfortunately, the tub with the couple on doesn’t actually exist since the renamed flavour isn’t available to buy in a tub (only at their ‘scoop shops’). Still, it’s a nice thought.

  2. I’ve seen Oh my apple pie in plenty of shops in the UK Claire so I’m not sure where your information has come from… It’s certainly available in both my local Tesco’s and Sainsbury’s..

  3. Yes, but the renamed/repackaged version will not be available to buy

“Will “Apple-y Ever After” be available as an actual pint?
“Apple-y Ever After” will be symbolically launched to raise awareness for this issue and will not be an actual pint, but only available in selected scoop shops.”
