Back in April, former News of the World features editor Paul McMullan was caught mouthing off about phone hacking by “crack undercover reporter” Hugh Grant. Last week, he was taken to task on Newsnight by Steve Coogan, who described him as “morally bankrupt” and “a risible individual”.
Today, it has emerged that the notorious hack — who claimed that Rebekah Brooks “absolutely” knew about hacking at the NOTW — has a sensitive side. As the excellent Popbitch reports:
“For years after leaving NOTW, when he was drunk he would email poetry to Rebekah Brooks, hoping she might start liking him enough to bring him back to the paper.”
Now an independent publican in Kent, McMullan has kept the booze but — amazingly enough — never did find someone willing to employ him.
