Ken Livingstone selected as Labour candidate for London Mayor

Labour’s other internal election reached its conclusion this morning, with Ken Livingstone announced as the candidate for London Mayor. “Red” Ken’s name recognition amongst Londoners, proven track record in the capital, long-running campaign to get back into office and love of newts will all no doubt have played a big role in his reselection, which came with a huge 68.6% of the vote.

With a YouGov poll this week showing that Boris is still more popular than Livingstone and his beaten opponent Oona King put together, there is still plenty of work for Labour to do before the election in 2012.

Scrapbook isn’t convinced by the “Yes We Ken” slogan either.

Belching for Oona

Not content with holding rallies at The Ministry of Sound and having the support of Idris Elba From The Wire (Coolest TV Show In The World™), the Oona King for London Mayor campaign has today received another boost in the hipster stakes with a YouTube video by comic actor David Schneider:

The video was both conceived and written by Schneider, who earnt his comedy chops on The Day Today and I’m Alan Partridge, and is certainly a little different to the videos Ken’s campaign has uploaded so far – although word has it that his 18 minute, two-part housing policy launch is the talk of Shoreditch at the moment.

Perhaps he could re-record Ernold Same with Blur?

Oona vs Ken at Young Labour Mayoral hustings

Proceedings still underway at London Young Labour’s Mayoral hustings, where Oona King’s phone keeps going off while she’s on the platform. This is either very amusing or very annoying, depending on whether you support Ken Livingstone or not.
