Leader of EDL to undertake senior position with British Freedom Party

The leader of the English Defence League is to join the far-right British Freedom Party, Hope Not Hate have revealed.  Tommy Robinson will become the deputy leader of the organisation, which was formed as a splinter group of the BNP.

The effective merger of the EDL and British Freedom Party brings to party politics a combination of populist street protest and media presence which is likely to outflank Nick Griffin’s BNP. Indeed, Hope Not Hate’s Nick Lowles claims that the moves “Probably signals the end of the British National Party”.

Attending the last meeting of the BFP’s executive council in Luton, Robinson has wasted no time in throwing his weight around, demanding that the party adopt the following policies:

  • Banning the Burqa/Niqab
  • Stop the developments of all new mosques
  • Halt new immigration except for “highly qualified positions”
  • Leave the European Union

We hope that Robinson can restrain himself from headbutting his new comrades.

BNP meltdown: party loses 70% of candidates in heartland areas

Yesterday we showed how the British National Party was running out of money, today we can reveal that it is running out of candidates as its activist base is decimated by defections and infighting. Research by Political Scrapbook shows the party has lost 70% of its in its candidates in target “heartland” areas.

A comparison between 2007 and 2011 for councils where the party previously stood five or more candidates shows ward nominations reduced from 545 to 166. The most dramatic collapses include:

  • Sunderland: 27 nominations reduced to 0.
  • Leeds: 33 nominations reduced to 2.
  • Kirklees: 22 nominations reduced to 4.
  • Bradford: 17 nominations reduced to 1.

Charnwood in Leicestershire, home to the largest number of BNP members in the country when the membership list was leaked three years ago, sees 14 running under the BNP banner reduced to just 3. Among the growing list of councils to confirm that they have no BNP candidates are Gateshead and Oldham, a huge blow for Nick Griffin. After winning a seat in the European Parliament he said:

“We will be in Oldham as often as there are local people, good people, willing to campaign for what we see as winnable seats. I definitely think we can get on Oldham Council.”

Errr, so why don’t you field any candidates, Nick?

The only Union Jacks most people will see on election day, will be left over bunting from the Royal Wedding.

Irony free zone as BNP copy campaign website from "Afrocentrist racist bigot" Barack Obama

Scrapbook had this timed to autopost on Monday but Alex Smith has run it over at LabourList. It appears great minds think alike keep an eye on the BNP’s website!

Nick Griffin called Barack Obama an “Afrocentrist racist bigot” but it’s amusing to see this didn’t stop him from the wholesale thievery of  the American president’s website (see evidence below). To compound the hilarity, Blue State Digital, who developed Obama’s site, have lent their services to anti-fascist campaigners Hope Not Hate.

Honestly. Where the BNP are concerned the blog posts virtually write themselves.
