Hammering the cuts: students fight for contact time with "U Can't Cut This" music video

Students from the University of the Arts in London have deployed their creative skills to produce a music video to fight against reductions in their time spent in direct contact with tutors:

The word on the street is that contact time could be reduced to save the College money. Cuts of around 25% will be hitting education in the UK and we need to protect our most valuable resource – contact time.

The Can’t Cut This video spoofs MC Hammer’s multi-platinum selling 1990 hit U Can’t Touch This:

For pop culture philistines, here is the original video:

Perhaps universities minister David Willetts would benefit from some Hammer pants?

But not if you're "too dark"! University of Bristol drop racial clanger with photo guidelines

Research indicates that ethnic minority groups are better represented in UK universities than in the general population. The University of Bristol has 10.0% ethnic minority students, below the 14.1% across the Russell Group of top research universities. Could this below average performance have anything to do with the university’s Card Services department?

Their rather unfortunate photo guidelines for student ID cards advise against yah-hair, having a blurry face and, erm, being “too dark”!*

Facepalm.

*We shouldn’t need to point out that this is an unfortunate (and amusing) faux pas rather than racist, but we’re going to anyway.

John Prescott on student finance: "What you talkin' 'bout Willetts?"

Prezza is not impressed by universities minister David Willetts’ suggestion that students are a “burden on the taxpayer” and should live at home, attending an FE college to achieve a “prestigious degree”:

But who knew Two Jags was a fan of Diff’rent Strokes?
