Fox News affiliate reports death of “Obama Bin Laden”

Scrapbook wishes that Fox News would just say what it really thinks.

Sarah Palin asks whether Libya action is a “squirmish”

Speaking on Fox News, naturally, Sarah Palin has again displayed the effects of an apparent dictionary famine in Wasilla. Commenting on President Obama’s rhetoric on the Libya crisis she asks:

“Another big question is … are we at war?”

“Do we use the term ‘intervention’, do we use ‘war’, do we use ‘squirmish’?”

Errr, probably not the last one, Sarah.

Scrapbook can’t help but wonder: is Sarah Palin an idiotic?

Right wing nutjob Glenn Beck attacks UK Uncut on Fox News

Having upset the apple cart in Whitehall, UK Uncut are hitting screens over the Atlantic, where our friend Glenn Beck has attacked the tax campaigners live on Fox News. True to his tin foil hat-gripping form, Beck even suggests that they are aligned with the wave of protest sweeping North Afria, repeating his claim that …

… this unrest could spread from Middle East to Europe and eventually America and that this would be co-ordinated all around the world.

Being attacked by Beck is a moral victory in itself.

Fox News: Will Sarah Palin's daughter Bristol run for president?

With Sarah Palin’s chances at the Republican nomination seeming to take a knock in the wake of the shooting of Danielle Giffords, her cheerleaders at Fox News have apparently identified their second preference:

Yes, you read that correctly: the 9 February edition of Fox & Friends mused openly at Bristol Palin’s POTUS prospects. Well, it’s not as though dynastic succession has, erm, gone wrong before! As Tanner Ringerud remarked:

Hang it up, America. You had a good run.

Glenn Beck: Muslim coup in UK will follow revolution in Egypt

The Scrapbook team are at once amused and terrified by the increasingly fevered rants from Fox News and talk radio firebrand Glenn Beck. In his latest prophecy, he reveals that if the Muslim Brotherhood seize power in Egypt, then a Muslim coup in the UK is inevitable.

While this turn of events would seem improbable to those with even a basic grasp of international politics, Beck is certain — once you get past his scattergun approach to grammar — that Islamageddon is nigh!

If the Muslim brotherhood takes Egypt, it destabilizes the entire Middle East. It sets the Middle East – if not immediately, within a reasonable period of time, sets the entire thing on fire …

As soon as anyone thinks that there is a shot, the Muslim radicals in Europe and in England rise up, once they [the Communists and the Muslims] start to work in concert, Europe is done.

His missive may be just the latest in a series of increasingly deranged right-wing pronouncements. Before you return the gas mask to the attic and take down the Anderson shelter, however, take a look at this historical LiveDesk map of the Middle East . It seems the Egyptians have, in Beck’s words, “set the entire thing on fire” and assumed control of Iraq!

Either that or the Fox News team have an embarrassingly poor grasp of foreign affairs.

We’ll let you decide which it is.

Rupert Murdoch claims Fox News is "not anti-immigrant"!

In a move which didn’t pass unnoticed by lovers of irony, Rupert Murdoch departed from the fevered anti-immigration rhetoric pumped out by his very own Fox News this week to argue in favour of amnesty for “illegals”, ahem sorry, ”responsible, law abiding immigrants who are in the US without proper authority”.

Under questioning from Democrat congresswoman Linda Sánchez, Murdoch – himself an immigrant from Australia – claimed hilariously that:

“We are not anti-immigrant on Fox News”

Does he even watch his own TV station?

"Keep fucking that chicken" (Fox News FAIL)

Viewers of Fox Broadcasting’s flagship affiliate WNYW, whose transmitter sits atop the Empire State Building, were treated to a bizarre moment last when anchor Ernie Anastos made the following remark to a weatherman last week:

“It takes a tough man to make a tender forecast. Keep fucking that chicken.”

This is nearly as funny as the following comment about a wet cat from the BBC’s James Dagwell:

“We always like a wet pussy here on BBC News”

Hannan in fresh assault on the NHS: "Heeere's Danny!"

Daniel Hannan stars in The Shining

Heeere's Danny! Loose cannon Daniel Hannan should give Tory spinners sleepless nights

Remember Conservative MEP Daniel Hannan‘s attacks on the NHS? Where he said that British doctors “make people iller”? Here’s a reminder :

Well it turns out the Tories’ loose-cannon-at-large has been at it again! In remarks made in a speech at the Army and Navy Club in Washington DC Hannan has said: “It is exactly a Marxist system. You are treated as a supplicant and expected to be grateful for what you get [...] It is not uncommon to wait six, 10, even 12 months for a knee operation”.

Hang on a minute.  Year long waiting lists?  That is, like, so nineties!  Thankfully Grace Fletcher-Hackwood* pulls this to bits so Scrapbook doesn’t have to:

He’s also, of course, lying [...] let’s have a look at the figures, shall we: ‘The number of patients, for whom English commissioners are responsible, waiting over the 26 weeks standard at the end of June 2009 was 23′ - NHS inpatient and outpatient waiting times figures, 30 June 2009. That’s twenty-three people in England waiting more than six months for treatment. Twenty-three. In the whole of England.

But he isn’t done with his media rounds yet. In an interview with Andrew Napolitano (whose reference to “Chancellor Gordon Brown” betrays his level of interest in affairs outside the 50 states) Hannan insults NHS staff yet again by describing them as a voting “bloc” whose behaviour means “it’s almost impossible to get rid of the [NHS]“:

Fox News nutcase Sean Hannity concludes the first video clip above by saying “Daniel, I hope one day I will get to introduce you as Mister Prime Minister”. In the words of the Honourable Member for Glasgow South:

He’s being talked of as a future candidate of his party. I can think of nothing more likely to turn moderate voters off than his strident, smug, arrogant neo-Thatcherism. So best of luck to him. – Tom Harris

Hannan seems to think no one will notice his attacks on British public services if they’re done stateside.

Perhaps someone should tell him we can get Fox News in the UK?
