Channel 4 election night spin-off starts tonight

With a bigger audience than ITV’s coverage of 6-7th May (sorry Guido Fawkes and Will Straw), Channel 4′s Alternative Election Night drew more than 1.6 million viewers. Endemol have now adapted the format into a 15-week series going head-to-head with the BBC’s pedestrian nightly news bulletin.

Anchored by David “Peep Show” Mitchell alongside Charlie Brooker, Jimmy Carr and Lauren Laverne, Scrapbook is hoping for the bastard offspring of The Daily Show and Chris Morris’ The Day Today.

10 O’Clock Live starts tonight at, erm, 10 O’Clock.

Lord West: military diplomacy the Chris Morris way

It seems that Baron West of Spithead has spent too much time with his The Day Today box set during recess. Arguing against sharing an aircraft carrier with the garlic-eating French, the spirit of satirist Chris Morris seemed to assume control of the former security minister:

“Do you want to find British pilots bombing people for a French reason?”*

Thanks to Matthew Taylor for pointing out our attribution blooper.

*If you are unfamiliar with the work of Mr. Morris, say ten Our Fathers and five Hail Marys and then watch this.
