Is Rick Santorum’s “Google problem” going away?

Good news this morning for gay-hating Republican candidate Rick Santorum – who may be seeing his “Google problem” start to dissipate. Since becoming a frontrunner in the nomination race, the former senator has faced embarrassment, with LGBT activists manipulating search engine results to propel an alternate (sexual) definition of his name to number-one on Google.

But now the Spreading Santorum (NSFW) webpage seems to have been banned from the first page of results. Google have blamed this on changes to their SafeSearch algorithm – but that doesn’t explain why a link to the (arguably cruder) definition on Urban Dictionary still sits atop the listings in its full glory.

Santorum is dribbling down Google’s rankings.

Mitt Romney and the baby vote

Baby-kissing is a well-established campaign trail feature, but as Romney found in the above picture children aren’t always as cooperative as you might like. This one, in particular, doesn’t seem to be very impressed with the Michigan Mormon.

Though actually, the baby isn’t the only person in that picture looking a little less than happy.

Activists construct portrait of Rick Santorum entirely from gay porn

A group of LGBT activists have taken an original approach to attacking social conservative Republican hopeful Rick Santorum, depicting the religious right’s favourite son by making a portrait collage of entirely out, erm, of gay porn.

Since becoming one of the increasingly-dwindling hopeful few, Santorum has pledged that he will change the constitution to make gay marriage illegal, along with banning pornography.

Scrapbook wishes him luck with that one.

Al Sharpton’s Valentine’s Day hot tips

With puppy-eyed romantics and reluctant cynics around Britain and beyond unavoidably marching towards the business end of Valentine’s Day, many a lovestruck individual is likely running around like a headless chicken determined to woo their beau or belle of choice.

Well have no fear, famed American preacher-man Reverend Al Sharpton has come to the rescue. Releasing a politically-themed video of Valentine’s hot tips guaranteed to ensure your loved one remains googly-eyed on this day of all days.

Suggestions include:

  • Taking a girl out to a nice rally, it doesn’t cost anything, and she thinks you care about a cause, you must likely know nothing about.
  • If the girl you love is in a relationship, creating a SuperPac to run negative ads against her boyfriend.
  • Making sexy euphemisms out of political buzzwords such as filibuster.
  • And setting up a tent city of caring and occupying her heart (awww!)

With surefire success almost certain to follow adherence to these tips, in passing on this message Scrapbook hopes we have done our bit to ensure this austerity Valentine’s keeps an element of romanticism.

Tearful Republican asks: “How can we deny marriage to gay people?”

With the gay marriage debate raging on both sides of the Atlantic, a major battle has just been won in the state of Washington. Take a look at this speech, from Republican state representative Maureen Walsh, in favour of gay marriage:

She says:

“I was married for 23 years to the love of my life, and he died six years ago…I think to myself, how could I deny anyone the right to have that incredible bond with another individual in life, to me it seems almost cruel.”

Compare with the Archbishop of York, on this side of the pond, calling David Cameron a “dictator” for proposing to legalise gay marriage.

Front-running Republican endorsed by “Rich Kids for Romney” campaign

With presidential candidate Mitt Romney moving towards securing his party’s nomination for November’s American election, life should be pretty sweet for the former Governor of Massachusetts. However despite primary success, the Republican front-runner has attracted much unwanted attention in recent weeks for a litany of gaffes (see here, here or here) underlining his affluent abandon towards the plight of the common man.

Ever willing to knock a Republican of their prosperous perch, the Huffington Post have pounced on the opportunity to kick an out-of-touch man when he’s down,  releasing a string of campaign videos “paid for” by the “Rich Kids for Romney”, satirically mocking the candidate’s ostentatious ways.

The original “Rich Kids for Romney” campaign video can be watched below. But other versions are also available.

To echo the words of “Rich Kids for Romney” – Does America really want a President who isn’t rich?

Hacked emails “reveal meeting” between Nick Griffin and Ron Paul

A cache of emails and private messages obtained by hacking group Anonymous reveal Nick Griffin may have had a meeting with Republican candidate Ron Paul at a conference in Washington DC. These messages from a white supremacist group are the latest blow to Paul, who has spent much of this week continuing to disavow racist newsletters printed in his name in the nineties.

Hackers infiltrated the website of the racist American Third Position Party (A3P) and an affiliated message board, WhiteNewsNow. The data dump which followed suggests Paul’s campaign team and A3P share more members than he’d like to admit.

In private messages, A3P webmaster, active Ron Paul campaigner and renowned white-nationalist Jamie Kelso boasts to supporters that he has a number of “buddies” in the Paul Camp, including Jeff Imbar, who he describes as Paul’s “#2 man in Illinois.” Imbar is a member of A3P and senior staff member at WhiteNewsNow.

In another message, Kelso outlines details of his plans to attend the annual Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Washington DC with Nick Griffin, and that he/they would be meeting Ron Paul on the trip.

“We’ll be meeting up with Nick Griffin on Wednesday night … a few of us. I let Nick know about the CPAC … Nick loved the idea of getting to this … since there will be 10,000+ right-wing White folks [there] … Ron Paul will be there Fri. afternoon. Want to meet up with him?”

Kelso, who can be seen here trying to convert moderate Republicans to his racist worldview at CPAC 2011, acted as Griffin’s “fixer” for his 2010 jolly to the colonies. He paid for Griffin’s plane tickets and, according to one hacked email, tried to sneak his entourage into the conference on subsidised student tickets.

Paul has form when it comes to accepting help from racists. During his 2008 presidential run, he took a $500 donation from the founder of the white supremacist Stormfront website, whose motto is “White Pride, Worldwide” and ignored widespread pressure for him to return the cash.

Unfortunately for our Nick, it seems A3P’s affection for him has cooled somewhat of late, with one member complaining that Griffin was “being stupid with producers of granny porn.”

Mitt Romney claims “I’m not concerned about the very poor”

Republican candidate Mitt Romney has been under attack of late over his personal fortune and how he came to it — so it may not have been altogether wise for him to go in front of a camera and say that he isn’t “concerned about the very poor”.

While Romney, who was being interviewed on CNN, went on to qualify his remark: “I’m not concerned about the very poor. We have a safety net there. If it needs repair I’ll fix it”, expect this to feature strongly in attack ads such as the above.

Then again, given the sort of thing that’s greeted with applause at Republican debates, perhaps it wasn’t a gaffe.
