It’s the goat story that shows no signs of slowing down! This week, Scrapbook reported that after showing up the Treasury’s “Spending Challenge” site, many were wondering how long it would be until the goat* became more popular than the Liberal Democrats.

Well, it appears we need ponder no longer. A YouGov poll, released this week, puts the Liberal Democrats on a lowly 13%. As this is an evidence-based gossip blog, Scrapbook set about poring over the figures and discovered something explosive: the goat already has more followers than the Lib Dems.

In a poll of over 2000 people, just 243 said they would vote for the junior coalition partners if there was an election tomorrow.

Meanwhile, over 900 people have been swept up in Goatmania**.

*As co-owners, Scrapbook would rather not be involved in the factionalism that threatens to tear the left apart over the issue of naming the goat.

Labour may breathe a sigh of relief with polls showing a “conspicuous lack of impact” from the fake lobbyists sting and no boost for “Sam Cam the Mam”. LabourList calculates that both return Labour as the biggest party on a uniform swing.

Is that the smell of anxious sweat again?

A Populus survey for The Times has Labour level pegging with the Tories in the crucial seats that will decide the next election.

• The Times’ Peter Riddel writes: “The poll suggests that recent talk of a Tory “wobble” has affected voters’ expectations” with “a swing of about 6.7 per cent to the Tories from Labour since 2005 in those seats”.
• Anthony Wells at UK Polling Report calculates that “the swing this poll suggests in the marginals is the equivalent of a 10 point lead nationally, a larger lead than most polls from other companies have been showing in recent weeks”.

In YouGov’s daily poll the Tories maintain their slender five point gap over Labour with both parties up 1 against the Lib Dems.

Rather than a poll of Joe Public, however, politicos will be unsurprised to discover that this was a survey of voluntary sector workers asked which party would be best for charities and other non-profits.

Still, the third sector is central to current Conservative thinking and yet charity staff collectively retch at the prospect of Cameron in Number 10.
