The animation below captures the moment when a Tory minister laughed when asked to apologise for smirking and giggling while horrific industrial diseases were discussed in the Commons.

Multi-millionaire Jonathan Djanogly repeatedly refused to apologise when challenged by other MPs — and even snubbed Speaker Bercow when given the opportunity to explain himself. Warrington MP Helen Jones said:
“many of us were dismayed by the conduct of the Minister, who giggled and grinned through descriptions of people dying of mesothelioma [cancer caused by asbestos] and what they suffered.”
Sick isn’t the word.

Absolutely shocking. I hope somebody leans on him and we see an apologetic press release, or something like that.
Not the first example of what a discredit to the human race Djanogly and his family are.
That should rule him out of the running for Theresa May’s job then. Mind you, with Cameron in charge, you never know.
Tories always have been and always will be the ‘nasty’ party.
Guess Jonathan Djanogly has never had to work in hazardous work conditions, his flippancy is a disgrace. Words fail me, the Tories deserve each other.
The Backbench Nazi sympathiser Aidan Burley seemed to avoid any punishment from his Party. I though that Dodgy Dave promised an Inquiry. So nothing will happen to this creep.
For a worthless piece of garbage, you are a prize winner.
He hasn’t lived out his life yet,
we reap what we sow, that is for sure, therefore take care not to ridicule the afflicted!
People who vote Tory now clearly have no Soul, let them die out as the Dinosaurs they are.
My father died of mesothelioma four years ago. I didn’t find it funny and would dearly like to ask this sick excuse for a human being what he finds amusing about it!
I just cared for a lovely gentleman who died of asbestos related illness on Xmas morning.
I would love the chance to stand face to face with this arse of a man “Djony” through glass and watch his face as the air was removed from the airtight room he was standing in just long enough for the colour to drain out the worthless piece of Sh1t.
let him laugh then.
What an obnoxious waste of space. Just searched on more stuff on him. He has family links with claims firms that will make millions out of these changes in legal aid etc. I despair in what is happening to our Country.
Djanogly isn’t a person as such, he is actually a walking, talking cancerous tumor.
SACK HIM, RESIGN AS MP, GO AWAY!
My dad died of mesothelioma….a horrendous, debilitating disease and this ‘thing’ (you can’t call him a human being) dared to laugh while another person read out the symptoms these sufferers have to endure. He needs to go…….NOW!
The actions of this “person” is absolutely disgusting. I work on a daily basis with people who have mesothelioma and other asbestos related illness and I agree with Lisa above – to illustrate 3 of our clients have died just this week. I will certainly be writing to David Cameron urging him to take this horrible specimen of an MP to task.
Having stood against this Tory Toff at the 2010 general election in Huntingdon, his arrogance towards the electorate locally is legendary, so his actions in the commons comes as no surprise to me. He is beyond contempt.
Lord Toby Jug, Leader Cambridge & Huntingdon Branch, The Official Monster Raving Loony Party.
Immature and insensitive. Disgusting.
Who voted for this idiot?
how long must the decent people in this country put up with this millionaire government who continue to filch money from the people And Just LAUGH AT US
What an absolute disgrace of a man.
What a horrible bastard..
Sometimes during a debate or conversation, we get distracted by someone or something out side the debating circle, which then diverts our attention from the topic under discussion and this diversion makes us smile or laugh, making it appear that we think the topic is laughable. Perhaps this is what happened. Just because the man is a very rich Tory, doesn’t mean he doesn’t have feelings towards his fellow man.
And camron want’s kid’s to stand up when a teacher or parent enter’s a room. When one of his own clown’s has no respect.
He will never have to go through the farcical ATOS assessment ! ! Show some respect
This is a brilliant blog post.
My father died of mesothelioma so I have experienced the effects of this awful and avoidable illness.
Once again its the poor man, the worker and their families who suffer the loss of a loved one – I don’t suspect many multi-millionaires suffer this illness! Though, of course, I could be wrong.
This is just another example of the bigotted ignorance of the Conservative party – they care not tuppence for the 99% and are only interested in, and sickly infatuated with, the money of the 1%.
This is another example of their anti-women ‘calm down dear’ antics and their sick Nazi-uniform wearing behaviour and their punishment of the long-term sick and the privatising of our NHS and now the giggling at and minimising of this dreadful illness.
This is our ‘democracy’ people – enjoy it!
What this arrogant ubber rich little Tory shit doesn’t realise is asbestos doesn’t care how much money he has or how well connected he is . Ok so he’s not likely to have worked with it but maybe one of his posh houses or schools or offices has had it in. His ignorance could easily catch him up or one of his loved ones and then he’ll be laughing on the otherwise if his evil little face. A disgrace.
My husband has mesothelioma. It is nothing to laugh about. We have two teenage boys who will lose their father before they reach their twenties. Luckily, I have a very good job but not all families are in the same position. More and more people are contracting this disease and victims are getting younger. I have recently been introduced to a young woman whose husband is currently undergoing chemotherapy. He has lost the use of his right arm as the primary tumour is pressing on his nerves. She is a nurse and juggles work with caring for her husband and her 9 year old son and an 11 year old son who has Down’s Syndrome and autism. I would very much like to meet this man and introduce him to my family and to hers and then see if he still feels like laughing.
My Dad passed away with this disease 3 years ago…and I Must admit that before he was diagnosed with it , i too was Ignorant of the fact of how serious it was , however to see someone snigger at someone elses misfortunes is utterly disgusting, my father was an extremley clever man , and was head hunted by many countries who required his expertise within the paper manufacturing Industry , (he was not an MP who earned money for sitting on his A*** doing jack shit!!! although he could well have put half of these de-generates in their places!!! He did , in fact do his job and did it with a positive result). He retired at 65 and like most pensioners ,and looked forward to enjoying the rest of his life….However , this was not to be, the culprit that lay dormant for 50 years , finally took it’s toll and took away every form of dignity my dad had……………………….So I’m sorry if i don’t giggle and sneer with you, you arrogant little toe rag , but i only hope that you don’t endure the same suffering and pain that some of us who have experienced this form of Illness have had to watch. But then on the other hand , maybe god is watching down on you and will teach you a long and lengthy lesson ………………. may you contract something that makes you scream in pain , makes your family feel helpless as thay are unable to help you. Then and only then will you feel any remorse for the actions you have portrayed. But then again, as you are soooo arrogant …you won’t feel anything , because thats the difference between someone who works for a living and someone who expects everything to fall into his lap ……….which most of what you jumped up little upstarts do!!!
I can confirm that the reports in the media have been misinterpreted and I categorically did not mock or laugh at those have suffered this disease.
To make this absolutely clear, please view my comments on the attached link http://www.publications.parliament.uk/pa/cm201212/cmhansrd/cm120417/debtext/120417-0003.htm, which details my sympathy for mesothelioma sufferers.
@Jonathan Djanogly: Before you (or your researcher) posted here, I hope you’ve read some of the comments above from people who have lost loved ones through mesothelioma.
Whether or not you accept that you were insensitive in the original instance, do you not agree that laughter was an inappropriate response in the context of this issue?
Yeah yeah Jonathan, on with the spin!
Deliberately mocking or not, you are blessed with an incredibly important job working for the nation and this schoolboy attitude does no credit to yourself or the party you represent.
Any other person in any other job would face serious consequences from this attitude, but as you are part of a privileged, elitist club you believe yourself to be aloof from such worries,
Sneeringly refusing to apologise and trying to laugh it off, and following it with the now-standard Tory denials and weak non-excuses is pathetic.
Enjoy your stay in the House, as I think history will look back at this period and label Camerons Cronies as one of the few post-war Governments that were so insensitive to the peoples’ feelings, needs and requirements that they failed to win even a second term.
Not forgetting, of course, that you failed to win the first.
I get the impression, the commons debate was to curb the size of the fee taken by solicitors of no-win-no-fee cases. (There might also have been a lumping together of “illness” claims, rather than sorting them by seriousness.) What is a laugh, is that it was his class that gave us the legal system and when legal people use that same system to take as much money as they can for its client and their company, it’s suddenly “bad form”, to be greedy solicitors: That is the capitalist system – GREED. And they don’t like it when the cash is being taken from THEIR insurance companies.
this MP is a complete tosser , i watched my late dad die from asbestos related cancer, over a few months he went from a muscular 16 stones down to less than 12 stones , he could even lift himself up in bed and virtually starved as his stomach had been eaten away , i really hope this disgusting desease effect this useless cunt although i doubt it as you usually have to WORK ewith asbestos to contract the problem and this cunt wouldnt know a days graft if it sat on his face
[EDITED. WE'RE NOT A FORUM FOR ETHNIC SLURS]
Some people posting here have asked “who votes for this ****?”, and Lord Toby Jug describes Djanogly’s contempt for the electorate in his constituency (John Major’s former stomping ground).
I happen to live in his constituency and the tragedy of it is that local people not only don’t hear/care about Djanogly’s mocking of cancer sufferers, taxpayer-funded electric gates on his large constituency home, the private school in London that his daughters attend (rather than one of the state schools in the area), his appalling voting record on gay rights or the private detectives he hired to root out the source of the leaks of his expenses, they continue to vote Tory at every election, with Djanogly winning the last election by over 10,000 votes. The Lib Dems were getting a foothold, but after this coalition government I suspect they’ll be wiped from the political map.
Djanogly, you’re just lucky the people of Huntingdon would vote for a lampost, if it were blue. The tragedy is that off the back of such blind, unthinking support for the Tories in Huntingdon, this toff’s political career will continue to give him more and more power. Pretty terrifying.
I used the word “tragedy” twice. I’d like to retrospectively substitute “sad truth” for “tragedy of it”, or some similar phrase to that effect. There, much better.
i have sent a letter written on behalf of my husband and i (he is a Solicitor) on behalf of all sufferers asking for his resignation and for them to explain a ministers actions. i lost my father a year ago or mesothelioma and i wont be letting it drop this side of the century
