Conservative councillor and GLA member Brian Coleman is under investigation for allegedly misusing his councillor’s parking permit to avoid fees that he introduced. The Barnet councillor, one of the highest paid councillors in Britain who is up for re-election in May, was filmed parking without paying.

Coleman (pictured above snoozing at his desk) is the second Conservative local representative to be accused of abusing the privilege in Barnet, after his colleague Hugh Rayner was caught using his permit whilst campaigning with Boris Johnson. Amusingly, when Times Series newspapers contacted Cllr Rayner, he said he would not comment until Thursday – by which time the paper would have already gone to press.

The new parking charges being introduced in areas of the borough have been particularly controversial, and true to Coleman and Rayner’s “do as I say, not as I do” attitude, a group of Tory councillors who promised to vote against the charges were conspicuously absent at the vote last night.

Does anyone else remember when we were “all in this together”?
