Looking to cash-in on his success with in the Iowa caucus, Rick Santorum seems to have been sucked deeper into an online trap laid by opponents of his anti-gay policies. Those searching for the senator and insurgent Republican candidate using his surname will be directed, rather than to his official site, to an alternate definition.

In the wake of Santorum’s virulent hostility to homosexuality, syndicated columnist and gay rights activist Dan Savage began a campaign to associate Santorum’s name with a sex act:

“There’s no better way to memorialize the Santorum scandal than by attaching his name to a sex act that would make his big, white teeth fall out of his big, empty head.”

So mischievous campaigner’s used so-called Google bombing techniques to put the definition at the top of the search results. We have redacted the results for squamish readers:

Ironically, the situation has now been made worse by his attempts to rake in the cash. The candidate’s official website, overloaded with traffic after his Iowa success redirected visitors to a donation page to raise money for the campaign. But this dented his site’s ranking, putting it even lower below the neologism.

He might not become president, but thanks to this campaign Santorum will probably find some sort of immortality.
