Should we be worried for the health of Boris Johnson supporters? With yesterday’s shock poll coup placing Ken Livingstone ahead of the mayor in London voting intention, ConservativeHome have made the most ridiculous campaign attack of 2012: that a role on a Labour committee would make Livingstone a “part time” mayor.
As Boris’ extended skiing holidays and string of external jobs take their toll on his popularity, Tory councillor Harry Phibbs has attempted to claim that Ken will be a part-time mayor because he’s running for election to Labour’s ruling NEC:
“if Livingstone is expecting to be elected Mayor of London shouldn’t he be concentrating on that?”
While chairing the NEC didn’t seem to distract one Tony Blair from his day job in central London, perhaps we should remind forgetful Phibbs of the mayor’s paid commitments:
- A “chicken feed” £250,000 weekly column with the Daily Telegraph
- Diary columns for The Spectator
- Book reviews for the Mail on Sunday
- A book contract with Harper Collins
Is that the sound of a barrel being scraped?
