French police interview restaurant staff from Aidan Burley Nazi party

French police have already interviewed staff at La Fondue restaurant as part of the criminal investigation into the Nazi-themed stag party attended by Aidan Burley MP.

With French news agency RFI reporting that detectives are now looking to speak to diners at the venue in Val Thorens, authorities seem to be pursuing the matter with some determination.

Monsieur Burley has subtly altered his account of the evening at least once.

He had better get his story straight for Les Flics.

Anyone else worried that wrong or not, that it the notion that dressing in a certain way is illegal is a very treacherous way to go down?

@Johnny: If you’d been occupied during WWII you might think differently. 75,000 Jews sent to death camps by Nazis in collaboration with Vichy regime.

That said, they banned face coverings in France too.

I think celebrating the Nazis is sick, and I don’t particularly buy the sense of humour argument, because it’s not funny. I just think the right to free expression should be absolute, because I don’t trust a government authority to decide what is and is not offensive.

I wouldn’t want a statute like that in the UK either. But if you’re in a foreign country and go out of your way to antagonise the locals then you get what’s coming to you:

“We are trying to intimidate as many people as possible. A lot have been quite offended, especially one guy who was both Jewish and gay.”

That argument, the freedom to do what you like without any responsibility.
I thought Conservatives loved people taking personal responsibility.

The defence will be that it wasn’t a Nazi party at all – it was a Prince Harry themed party.

Next year he and his mates are planning another Stag Party in New York. They intend to dress up as Al Qaida and to toast Osama Bin Laden. Who could possibly take offence to a few lads having a laugh?
