The ongoing protest camp outside St Paul’s Cathedral seems to have claimed its first casualty, as canon chancellor Giles Fraser has announced his resignation in protest at the Cathedral leadership’s plans to and forcibly remove protesters, caving to the City of London.

The Rev Dr Giles Fraser said:

“I resigned because I believe that the chapter has set on a course of action that could mean there will be violence in the name of the church.”

Rev Fraser has been one of the strongest voices within the church supporting the protesters, giving a sermon on Sunday about corporate greed. His support for activists is now being reciprocated, with an outpouring of support on Twitter and a Facebook group started by Political Scrapbook and Liberal Conspiracy.

The Bible says that Jesus threw the money-lenders out of the temple, but the modern day Church seems happy to side with the money-lenders in the City.

  1. Sometimes I love your strap lines. However, this one seems pretty unnecessary. I am a Christian, and fully support Occupy London Stock Exchanges protest, and know many other Christians who do too.
