MSP becomes most senior Liberal Democrat to resign over coalition

With the Scottish Parliament election now underway, one of the Liberal Democrats MSPs seeking re-election has resigned as a candidate citing dissatisfaction with the direction of the party and the Coalition Government.

Hugh O’Donnell was elected as an MSP for the largely working-class Central Scotland region in 2007 and was ranked top of the Liberal Democrats list for the region for the May 5th poll. While we’ve seen dozens of councillors resigning from the Liberal Democrats in disgust at the policies of the coalition government, O’Donnell is undoubtedly the most senior elected official to do so to-date.

As the Scottish Liberal Democrats get set for a drubbing at the polls O’Donnell has jumped before the electorate push him.
