Gay support for Conservatives plunges 5 points after Cameron and Grayling gaffes

A new poll for Europe’s largest LGBT news outlet Pink News has seen gay support for the Conservatives plunge by 5 percent in one month. While backing for Labour remain unchanged on 28% the Tories are down 5 points at 20% compared with March. The news follows a disastrous interview in which David Cameron faltered badly when quizzed on gay rights and the suggestion by shadow home secretary Chris Grayling that B&Bs should be able to ban gay couples from their accommodation.

The misstep by Grayling has stoked speculation that he will be demoted in any Conservative administration, with Michael Gove rumoured to be agitating for Home Secretary.

Two front benchers into one Home Office won’t go.

UPDATE 12:30 Cameron has this morning omitted a reference to the gay community from a speech despite this wording being briefed in advance. Left Foot Forward have the story.
