David Wilshire, who introduced Section 28 as an amendment to the Local Government Bill 1988, is royally screwed. In the pantheon of expenses scandals, paying more than £100,000 to a firm owned – to the extent that it is possible to own a quasi-legal, unincorporated, unaudited company – with your girlfriend is up there with Margaret Moran, Andrew MacKay and abodes for anatidae.
It’s really hard not to see this as an “I’m standing down at the next election” issue.
Scrapbook has £20 which says Wilshire won’t be the Tory candidate in Spelthorne by Christmas.
