Anti-gay campaigner magically transformed into harmless old lady

Pictured sipping tea unassumingly, Pauline Howe is the last person you would expect to be treated to a bit of nee-naw. That is precisely what happened, however, when the evangelical Christian wrote a letter of complaint regarding a gay pride event. The involvement of the police was obviously an overreaction, not to mention a misdirection of the legislation concerned, but casting her as the as a benign old dear is a perversion of reality.

According to the Daily Moir Mail, Howe fired the letter off after “witnessing a gay pride march” in Norwich. Perhaps she was going to collect her pension when a man in a pink thong tried to ply her with amyl nitrate? Maybe she was stocking up on rich tea biscuits when a marcher, overcome with gay zeal, waved a double-ended dildo in her face?

In fact, our sweet little old granny “witnessed” the march because she attended it with the express intention of handing out anti-gay leaflets. There is, of course, a massive difference between “expressing your views as a Christian” and rocking up to a public rally with the intention of antagonising people. Howe then has the temerity to complain that she was ”verbally abused” by visitors to the city’s first ever pride event.

Not content with handing out gay-bashing literature to gays, she then wrote, in the words of Classically Liberal, a “God hates fags”, letter to Norwich City Council. “‘It is shameful that this small but vociferous lobby should be allowed such a display unwarranted by the minimal number of homosexuals”. She went on to refer to homosexuals as “sodomites” and blamed “their perverted sexual practice” for spreading STIs and the “downfall of every Empire”.

So hats off to the press for turning an anti-gay campaigner into everyone’s favourite granny.

By all means be an indignant bigot.

But don’t play the victim when someone gives you an earful.
