The Northern Scot invoked an absolutely brilliant pun in an article about Moray Council’s homophobe-at-large, Cllr John Hogg this week. Whether intentional or not it is very funny indeed:
A COUNCILLOR has quit membership of the Church of Scotland over the General Assembly’s handling of the appointment of an openly gay minister to a church in Aberdeen [...]
Councillor Hogg, a member for the Heldon & Laich ward, claimed the General Assembly had fudged the issue of ordaining openly practising homosexuals.
Unfortunately, Cllr Hogg’s bigoted diatribe about “undermining Christian authority in the developing world” and “medically-dangerous practices” is not as amusing. It’s a pity the Northern Scot hacks didn’t balance this out with a quote from someone who doesn’t belong in the 1950s.
In any case, Scrapbook can foresee this one popping up in Private Eye!
